About the Classes:
Beginners:
Suitable for/if you are:

  • The less confident and those who rely on a walking aid. For clients who have had investigated falls. We welcome clients who have completed the Bromley Falls Service, 12 week course.
  • Reasonably confident but, still would like to work with support on occasion. Ready to take on more challenges. Introduction to circuit training.

Structure:

  • The class moves at a safe, steady pace that allows you to build balance skills and confidence. As part of this class we will teach coping strategies for managing a fall. We use the evidence-based FaME programme as our template for classes as well as and the PRO-ACT 65+ syllabus, used successfully in trials with University College London.
Intermediate/Advanced:
Suitable for/if you are:
  • Confident and ready for challenges, having been through the previous level.
  • Advanced and confident to participate in a variety of strength and balance exercises building major muscles groups. Ready to join community exercise groups.

Structure:

  • Circuit based class with (optional ) floor work and adapted Tai-Chi, still keeping strength and balance as it’s core. Based on the FaME programme and the PRO-ACT 65+ syllabus, used successfully in trials with University College London.
Both Classes are designed to help with your strength, balance and improve your general well-being. Improving your level of fitness can help you avoid many of the common ailments sometimes regarded as diseases of ‘old age’; such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and heart problems as well as declining fitness.
It is possible to train the ‘older body’ to improve balance, strength, muscle power and by doing so reduce the risk of ‘age related illness’.  A 12 week course of exercise can dramatically improve your strength, walking, general mobility and fitness. Regular exercise is also associated with reduced stress and improved self-esteem and well-being.  Classes are based on the evidence-based FaME programme for tailored group exercise (Falls Management Exercise).

Age gracefully in the company of like-minded others, with expert supervision.
