This is a Primary Care intervention for parents or carers of children aged up to 2 years of age. The 5-session programme provides guided self-help to address anxiety and depression symptoms that can be associated with the transition into parenthood. The on-line course is delivered by Psychological Wellbeing practitioners over a course of 5 weeks. Each course module runs for 90-minute covering the following:
Week 1 – Transition to parenthood common challenges encountered from the health visiting team, common symptoms of anxiety and depression, introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Week 2 – Resilience in parenthood using behavioural strategies – understand the impact of behaviour on mood including sleep hygiene and having routines.
Week 3 – Resilience in parenthood using cognitive strategies – how to challenge unhelpful thinking, thinking biases.
Week 4 – Resilience to parenthood using worry management strategies – categorising different types of worries, using worry time to manage hypothetical worries.
Week 5 – Continuation of resilience to parenthood using worry management strategies and planning for the future. Use of problem solving to manage practical worries, consolidation of strategies, relapse prevention, future goals, returning to work.

In this case, ask your midwife, health visitor, friends, or a family member to help you make that first call. Your GP can also make the referral.
