To begin, a local anaesthetic will be injected into the area where the surgery is needed. You might feel a brief stinging sensation for a few seconds, but the area will quickly become numb, and you shouldn’t feel any discomfort during the procedure. The lesion will then be either biopsied or removed and sent to a laboratory for analysis under a microscope. We may use stitches to close the wound; some will be on the surface, while others may be underneath the skin and will dissolve on their own over several months. A dressing will be applied to protect the area.
In some cases, you may need to take a course of antibiotics after the surgery. If this is required, we’ll provide you with a private prescription. Please make sure to let us know if you have any allergies to antibiotics.
£149 – Covers up to 3 lesions (includes up to 3 sessions; any additional sessions needed will be £50 each)
Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extremely cold liquid nitrogen to safely remove abnormal skin tissue by freezing and destroying the cells. We will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain. This treatment requires minimal downtime, allowing you to get back to your normal activities quickly.
from £449.00
Curettage is a procedure where the skin is gently scraped with a long, thin instrument that has a sharp, looped edge at one end, called a curette. After the area is scraped, we use a small electric needle to destroy any remaining cells. We will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain. This process might be repeated one or two times during the same visit. Curettage and electrodesiccation is an effective treatment for removing superficial skin lesions that are limited to the top layer of the skin.
from £499.00. Full excision from £549.00
A punch biopsy is a simple procedure where a small, circular piece of skin is removed and sent to a lab to help establish a diagnosis. You will be awake during the procedure, and we will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain. After the biopsy, the area is usually closed with one or two stitches, which can be removed in five to fourteen days. In some cases, dissolving stitches may be used instead.
An incisional biopsy is a procedure where a small part of a skin lesion is removed for testing. We use a surgical blade to carefully remove the sample. You will typically be awake during the procedure, and we will numb the area with a local anaesthetic so you won’t feel any pain. Afterward, the area is closed with a few stitches, which can be removed in five to fourteen days. Sometimes, dissolving stitches are used instead.
An excision biopsy involves the complete removal of a skin lesion or mole. Like an incisional biopsy, you will usually be awake during the procedure, and we will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain. The area will be closed with a few stitches afterward.
After your procedure, the local anaesthetic will wear off in about 2 to 3 hours, and the area may feel a bit uncomfortable. To help with the pain, you can take two paracetamol (500mg) tablets every 4 to 6 hours, but no more than 8 tablets in 24 hours. It’s best to avoid aspirin or ibuprofen on the day of the procedure, as they can sometimes cause bleeding. Please also avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours after the procedure.
